What is Blackbird Finance?

Blackbird Finance is the financial OS for Indian freelancers. It is one place to invoice clients, track income and expenses, manage GST and stay ready for income tax. It is built for freelancers, developers and agencies in India who bill clients abroad, and it handles:

  • Export invoices: under your Letter of Undertaking (LUT), with no IGST, in the client’s currency
  • FIRC and FIRA: one for every foreign payment, matched to the invoice it pays
  • GSTR-1: prepared as the JSON file the GST portal accepts
  • EDF: the monthly Export Declaration Form for your bank, required by the RBI from 1 October 2026
  • Income tax: Sec 58 (old 44ADA), F&O and crypto, with tax set aside as you earn

It runs in the browser and is free to start. It works with whichever service brings the money in: a bank transfer, PayPal, Wise, Payoneer or Skydo.

Who is it for?

Freelancers, developers, designers, consultants and agencies in India who bill clients abroad. It also covers the parts of their year that are not exports. That means GST invoices to clients in India, expenses and input tax credit, and F&O and crypto tax.

Landlords use it too, for GST-compliant rent receipts sent every month.

Why does it exist?

Exporting services from India comes with its own paperwork. There is an LUT to file each year and a FIRC to keep for every payment. Exports have their own place in GSTR-1. From 1 October 2026 there is also a monthly Export Declaration Form for your bank.

Blackbird Finance is built around that paperwork, and around the tax that follows it. The export guides explain each rule, and the app applies them to your own invoices.

Who builds it?

Four founders, each running one part of the company. Each has a page on the team page.
